I stand proudly in my backyard, grinning from horn to horn as I look over the scene around me.  I crane my head around to look at myself.  Scales as dark as the night itself, a tail like a telephone pole ready to smash whatever I need.  And wings...oh...yes...wings. I finally have them.  I have finally become who I truly am inside...Midnight.  And today, I am going to take my first flight, and I don't care WHAT pathetic humans would see it! I am a mighty dragon!  There is nothing they could do to stop me!

I then raise my head a bit, looking over the old barn-colored house.  I won't be going back there anytime soon. I slowly look around the rest of the yard, breathing in slowly, my chest expanding a bit, before I let out a heavy sigh, closing my eyes for a moment, to take in what was happening.

I then open my eyes gently, looking back at my wings, flapping them powerfully, and growling at the pleasure I get just from the thought of flying. I flap them again, smiling. I can't wait any longer! I have to do it!

Looking forward, I run a few steps, before leaping into the air with a mighty beat of my massive wings, as I feel the wind rush against my scales and wings, tearing up into the sky as I see everything dwindle below me. The houses getting smaller, the trees soon nothing but twigs. I simply roar my approval, sucking in a deep breath of the thick air from above, spiraling a bit, before evening out, and just hovering, flapping a bit, and looking down at the small world below me.

Everything seemed so...distant...and strange.  Like I could barely recognize it. I looked around, and after a while realized, I could see for miles. The town hall, I could see the vineyard, everything, stuff that would take me five minutes of driving to see normally was now within my eyesight all at once! And I had gotten here within a few seconds. I roar again, and begin to slowly circle around my house, slowly gaining altitude as I do, before finally stopping. I decide to fly to the closest ocean I can see.

I look over everything I do, and feel the clouds against my scales and wings, simply grazing over them and tickling slightly, causing me to chuckle. Once I find the ocean, I swim out to where no one can see, before tucking in my wings, and diving.

The wind rushes against me, as I feel almost deafened by the force of gravity, and wind scraping against me and buffeting my scales, but I don't care. I dive faster and faster, before with a roar I flare my wings, raking my body forward and just barely touching the ocean, before laughing and sighing a bit dreamily, slowly gliding above the waves, staring into the water at my reflection.  I didn't stare back at the me I knew for nearly 20 years....I stared back at the me that was always hidden inside, the black dragon known, as Midnight Yaimikidate.
just a little quickie I was inspired to write after taking off on the plane for my trip to Florida. gonna be posting one or two more stories in a minute.

First person is my favorite person to write in, though if the reader is not completely connected with the character, it feels weird reading it because in your head it is saying one thing from the text, but also another that your brain would do in the situation.

This kind of writing sounds like you took your turn in a role-play and then it was someone else' turn after. Hahaha I think you pulled off the first person very well though. Flight stories are always some of my favorite, and I could tell (as the reader) that you had a lot of fun writing this. (:
